About the Role
Lead the Bar in an award-winning BBQ restaurant, inspire a passionate team, craft exceptional drinks and help deliver Oxford's best smokehouse experience.
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Guaranteed Hours : 35 hours per week.
Additional Hours: Additional hours up to approximately 45 hours per week. Depending on the needs of the business .
Working Pattern: Including evenings, weekends and bank holidays as required by the needs of
the business.
Salary: £27,300 – £35,100 per year, plus a generous share of the restaurant's service charge.
* Guaranteed Basic Pay: £15.00 per hour plus a share of the restaurant's service charge. Service charge is paid in addition to your basic pay and will vary depending on the amount collected and the Company's service charge distribution arrangements.
Requirements
As Bar Manager, you will lead by example, creating an outstanding guest experience while living and promoting the Burnout BBQ Family Ethos. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will work alongside your team, particularly during busy service periods, ensuring every guest receives the high standards of hospitality Burnout BBQ is known for. You will be responsible for leading the bar team, ensuring exceptional customer service, maintaining operational standards, supporting team development and ensuring the bar operates safely, efficiently and in line with company policies. Working closely with the Front of House and Kitchen Managers, you will play a key role in delivering an outstanding overall guest experience.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & People Management
● Lead, motivate and support the bar team in line with the Burnout BBQ Family Ethos.
● Recruit, interview and onboard new bar team members.
● Manage inductions and probation periods.
● Monitor attendance, punctuality and absenteeism, taking appropriate action where required.
● Handle employee queries, concerns and grievances professionally, following company procedures.
● Conduct regular one-to-one meetings with team members and maintain accurate records.
● Complete performance reviews and support career development through progression planning.
● Ensure all bar team members maintain excellent presentation standards and comply with company uniform policies.
● Build a positive, supportive and high-performing team culture.
Rotas & Bar Operations
● Produce and manage staff rotas in line with business requirements.
● Approve annual leave requests.
● Arrange cover for sickness and unexpected absences.
● Lead the bar team throughout service, ensuring efficient and consistent drink preparation.
● Oversee all opening and closing procedures for the bar.
● Monitor labour costs and staffing levels to maximise operational efficiency.
● Ensure the bar is fully prepared for every service.
Guest Experience & Bar Service
● Deliver and maintain exceptional customer service standards.
● Ensure every guest enjoys a consistent Burnout BBQ experience.
● Lead the bar team during busy service periods.
● Ensure drinks are prepared, presented and served to the highest standards.
● Resolve customer feedback and complaints promptly, professionally and in line with company procedures.
● Continuously identify opportunities to improve the guest experience.
Stock Control & Beverage Management
● Manage bar stock levels to ensure product availability.
● Complete stock counts and investigate stock variances.
● Order beverages, bar consumables and supplies in line with business requirements.
● Monitor stock rotation and minimise wastage.
● Ensure all drink portions are measured and served consistently.
● Maintain accurate stock records and support cost control.
Menu Development
● Develop and maintain Burnout BBQ's cocktail menu and seasonal drinks offering.
● Create new cocktails and beverage specials that complement the Burnout BBQ menu.
● Work with the senior management team to review and develop the drinks offering.
● Ensure all team members are trained on new products and recipes.
Health, Safety & Compliance
● Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and company policies.
● Ensure compliance with all licensing legislation and Challenge 25 requirements.
● Maintain food safety and hygiene standards within the bar operation.
● Communicate updates to policies and legislation with the team.
● Carry out regular operational and safety checks.
● Ensure all company standards are maintained.

● Has previous management experience within a busy bar, restaurant or hospitality venue.
● Has a passion for cocktails, beverages and outstanding hospitality.
● Leads by example and enjoys working on the floor behind the bar.
● Has outstanding customer service and communication skills.
● Is organised, reliable and able to work well under pressure.
● Has excellent leadership and people management skills.
● Enjoys developing and supporting others.
● Has a strong understanding of stock control and cost management.
● Has a good understanding of Health & Safety, food hygiene and licensing requirements.
● Holds a personal licence (desirable but not essential).
